The winning ingredient for any road team preparing to play in a hostile environment has always been to limit the big play, and control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Going into its game at Highland Park, Garden City coach Mike Salter's formula for success involved regulating both key areas.

Comments: The reciever can get 500 yards in receiving, but its team work that make you win games. One player can't carry the team into a victory against a good Allen Park team. If the team play together and not rely only on one player (even if he get 500 yards in receiving) you guys may have a chance. Although it is a good motivating factor, but like what Tom Cruise once said (in the movie "All Right Moves"), "Togetherness". One player's performance doesn't mean Jack without the support of the whole team.

Comments: Stevenson really did take it to Ike. I didn't realize the series had been so lopsided in recent years but I guess SHS took it out on Ike as payback. I wouldn't be surprised if we get a rematch of Rockford & Stevenson at Ford Field. Rockford is pretty much pounding opponents. They beat brighton pretty easily and that brighton team might be better than the score indicated? I think my Novi team is a bit overrated. I was impressed that they beat Chelsea but since they have beaten a Pinckey team, and squeeked out a win vs. Howell (which they could have lost in a manner of ways if Howell made any kicks). I haven't seen them in person yet (probably will travel to the Brighton game), but I'll be surprised if they can beat both Brighton AND Milford (they look like the real deal from what I hear). Walled Lake Western pulled off the "upset" of Canton. I thought it was a game WLW could win but I wasn't sure if they'd find the inner courage to finally topple the Chiefs. Good win for WLW. Congrats to Fordson for a much needed victory. I guess Southgate wasn't the pushover that many were predicting? Grosse Ile puts a whooping on Riverview. I hear the game wouldn't have been close if the View even had the 3 starters who were suspended?

Subject: THE MAC CONFERENCE
Comments: Hello everybody out there in football land, friends, romans and junkies, this is Big Mike reporting from the east side....well, the smoke has cleared from the "Big Showdown" on the east side, Clint Eastwood vs. Lee Van Cleef..ha-ha, and the Stevenson Titans put on a big show of skill and power and pounded arch rival Ike 31-9. After losing six straight games against Ike the Titans looked confident and impressive. This folks is a team that will be reckoned with against any power in the state....so far that is....it is early and easy to make foolish predictions but among the Big Four of Ike, Stevenson, Dakota, and Chip Valley, the consensus among a lot of fans is Stevenson is tops. But wait....there is another team in the MAC RED with a 3-0 record named Chippewa Valley they have to play yet. The crowd at Utica high friday was estimated at 7500 with an overflow standing in the end zone.....for the first time I can remember Ike looked like a very ordinary team...in fact at times they looked completely overmatched.....The combination of QB Dan Stieffel, running back LJ Robertson, and receiver Ricky Venitelli overwhelmed Ike. Stieffel's running and passing skills, LJ bulldozing through holes and the speed of Venetelli along with receiver Rodney Mershman zonked Ike big time. Is Ike on a down side, hardly...I think the Titans wanted to win this game big time and no one was going to get in their way. Eisenhower will still be heard from and their coach Bob Lantzy will make the adjustments they need. Meanwhile, Chip Valley under that new coach continues to roll...they are running up a large amount of offense, this time steamrolling Lanse Creuse 37-13. They have a top QB in Steve Beltowski who has ran up some impressive passing yardage through the first three games.....look out for running back Robert Thaqi who is a power runner, some excellent receivers in Ian Findlay, Tony Carreri, and Matt Schweiger. Stevenson will have their hands full with Chip and the game will be at Chip, a very hostile place to win at any time......it would be a big stretch for any team in the MAC RED to go undefeated, the competition is very fierce. Other MAC RED teams like Ford and Anchor Bay might get zonked big time by the super four. DeLaSalle is 3-0 on the east side but I do not think they have played any powers....let's see them against OLSM, CC and Rice....then we'll know what is in their tank. Utica in the MAC White is 3-0 and raising some eyebrows around macomb county...they are probably better than Anchor Bay and Ford II in the RED division....they will have a crossover clash with hated rival Eisenhower in their final game of the season...they'll see what is in their tank that night against a top MAC RED team...... Dont count Ike out yet, as I said it will be very difficult for any team in this division to go undefeated.....it is like a playoff game every week in the RED......hapless Lakeshore and Lakeview in St.Clair Shores played a baseball, er...football game friday night with Lakeview winning 6-3 on 9th inning triple...just joking......stay tuned...Big Mike

Comments: u know what im sry, apparently i made a mistake, it happens. but i was convinced that mifsud didnt pull hnatiuk in the first half. regardless, noone has the right to question what mifsud does. he does what is neccessary for the team to succeed. hnatiuk is a great quarterback no doubt. he has a swagger and confidence in a qb that i havent seen in many years. maybe instead of questioning and complaining about what mifsud does, we should support him and the players.

Comments: The best thing about the game is that Cass has a very nice field(natural grass) and the band is great! The technicans program is in shambles. A once competitive program got a running clock put on them by the pilots. Kudos to MW there execution was great. They had an excellent field goal kicker(some of the coaches are finally getting the message). As for Cass in previous years their defense could keep them in games while waiting on a big play or two to keep them competitive. This year the defense is only so-so and the offense is terrible..make that the offensive line. Cass could not move the ball, there only TD was on a kickoff return. The OL got no push on running plays, the pass protection was inept, LB's were coming in untouched over and over to blow up plays, or forcing the QB into bad passes because he was running for his life. The really sad part about this is I bet during the post-game huddle the coaches ripped into the kids for not giving enough effort.

Comments: I don't know waht game you were watching but as sure as the pioneers are orange and black, and edsel is silver and black, Mifsud yanked the starting qb Hnatiuk in the second qtr for a series of plays. Next time before you make comments, make sure they are accurate or don't put them down in writing...maybe you stepped out to the bathroom, but all you have to do is ask the coach himself, he'll tell you.

Comments: I wasn't at the game, but a friend of mine told me Bye's Boys ran over Ike like they were a middle school team! He and I agree that Ike seems to be lacking the usual talent they've had in the past. Stevenson will win it all this year and Bye will retire.

Comments: Last year AP had a lot of key guys really hurt in the playoffs. Hoover never once made that an excuse as to the reason they lost. Brighton was hurt the whole 2nd half of the season last year and a number of key other guys were also hurt. So injuries do affect what can happen. That is why depth is so important.

Comments: The kid from southgate got hurt because of fordsons running attack. Everyone knows when you run the ball that many times the defense will start to get tired and play sluppy, and thats when injuries occur. Lucky for southgate fordson didnt start playing the way they in second half the whole game or it would have been a blow out

Comments: If Eric Davis would of not gotten hurt. SG would of won. He would of stopped 21 points in the 2nd half. Remember it was 31-20 with 2 minutes to go. Fordson has injuries to key guys. A matter of fact they had a few guys get hurt early in the WL western game. However injuries happen and you are entitled to your opinion. Thats why you need some depth in a sport like football. Allen Park lost a key running back and they have not missed a beat. Chelsea lost their starting Qb in the last scrimmage before the first game. Would they of beaten Novi with him? You can always use the injury situation. However you can never take the win from the other team. It is a team game and one person should not have that big of an impact on the defense. Is Eric Davis an all american being recruited to a D1 school. Stergalis and the coaches made some adjustments and southgate could not anwser them.

Comments: i was at the game last night, and mifsud did NOT pull the starting qb in the first half. in fact he played through the third quarter. mifsud has a tendency as all coaches do. his magic number that he works to get to is 35. when hes up by 35 and sees the game out of reach, hell sub. but he never subs in the first half. also the first offensive and defensive drive of the second half are the starters as well. after that he may sub depending on the score.
